Our Kitchen

The Staffa House kitchen is the hub and heart of our home. We are passionate about serving the best that we can and Chris’ skills and experience mean that you can look forward to delicious food served with flair.

We source as much of our produce as we can from the local area (Iona and the Ross of Mull) extending that to the rest of Mull, Oban and Scotland when necessary. Chris’ passion for local sourcing and organic growing extends to our garden. Containing a range of fruit, vegetables and herbs, you’ll find these in many of Chris’ dishes as they come into season. And what isn’t used by Chris will be preserved, jammed, pickled and chutney’d by Janice!


Our Breakfast is based on Scottish traditional fare but includes modern breakfast classics – a full cooked breakfast, smoked salmon and home-made yoghurt all appear alongside our fresh fruit salad, fruit compotes, cereals and porridge. Gluten-free, diabetic, vegetarian and vegan can all be catered for – although we do appreciate knowing any dietary requirements or preferences in advance.

Packed Lunches

If you fancy dining al fresco at lunchtime, we can provide you with a tasty and substantial picnic lunch whilst you take the time to stop and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mull and Iona. We recommend bringing your own lunch box so your picnic doesn’t get too squashed and are always happy to fill a flask and water bottle too.

This is an example of our packed lunch menu. We can talk you through the available options when you pre-order your packed lunch as they do change day to day. We ask that you do this the afternoon or evening before so that it is ready when you leave for the day.

Examples of Sandwich Fillings (all served with salad if desired) 

Isle of Mull Cheddar Cheese and Home-Made Chutney, Smoked Organic Salmon and Home-made Cream Cheese, Tuna Mayonnaise (line-caught), Egg Mayonnaise, Ham and Salad, Beef and Mustard or Horseradish. 

If you have brought a flask, then we will be happy to fill it with hot water and provide any tea or coffee sachets required. We are not able to loan flasks to guests. If you have a lunch-box then please hand that in too. 

We kindly ask that guests who have a packed lunch, retain their rubbish and bring it back to Staffa House for disposal and recycling. We are happy to provide a bag for this purpose. We are also happy to clean any flasks or lunchboxes used by guests.

Evening Meals

From the 1st of May, right through to the end of September, our regular evening meal service will be offered on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening. A set two or three course meal with tea and coffee will be served in our communal dining room. Chris will have a chat before each meal about what’s local, fresh and available to help develop the menu. We recommend budgeting for between £20 and £30 per person depending on how many courses they opt for although we’ve noticed that many of our guests reserve the right to change their mind when it gets to pudding!

Not eating with us?

That’s fine – we keep an information pack on local eating places to help you choose and we will be happy to help you make bookings – which is always the best plan locally as our pubs and restaurants do get busy.

Our food philosophy is very simple – home grown, home made; sustainable and local when possible. Our garden is organically managed. Otherwise organic and fair-trade. Sometimes we will change or substitute items on our menu depending on their availability. If you would like to know more then please ask.
