Getting to the Isle of Mull via Oban
Rail: For details of timetables and ticket prices www.scotrail.co.uk. Trains depart Glasgow Queen Street to Oban.
Coach: For details of timetables and ticket prices www.westcoastmotors.co.uk. Buses depart from Glasgow Buchanan Street Station and take about the same amount of time as the train.
Road: From Glasgow take the A82 to Crianlarich, then A85 to Oban if you are coming by car or motor-home. You should allow three hours to make the journey between Glasgow and Oban in the summer months as the roads around Loch Lomond do get busy. There is a good alternative route via Inverary on the A83.
From Oban to the Isle of Mull
By Cal Mac ferry to Craignure – a beautiful ferry crossing at any time. www.calmac.co.uk This route is very busy in Summer and served by two boats. You must book ahead for both your journey to Mull and your return journey to the mainland.
Other ferry routes to Mull are Lochaline to Fishnish and Kilchoan to Tobermory so there is more than one way to get to Mull depending on your starting point.
Across Mull to Fionnphort and Staffa House
Coach: You will also find information on bus travel on the Isle of Mull on www.westcoastmotors.co.uk. Service 496/96 is from Craignure to Fionnphort and buses link to the ferry timetable making it a very easy way to travel. Staffa House is only a couple of minutes’ walk from the bus terminal at Fionnphort jetty so it couldn’t be easier!
Car: Just follow the signs for Fionnphort. It's 37 miles (just over 50km) and you should allow up to 1.5 hours for this journey in the summer. Staffa House is near the start of the village and has a bright red gate. Mull’s roads are mainly single track and you can read our local rules here.
