Visit castles, abbeys and old settlements – see how life on Mull really was before, during and after the Clearances. The Ross of Mull Historical Centre at Bunessan or the Iona Heritage Centre can help you trace local ancestors too. Duart Castle is a little further afield but can be easily reached by car or bus. Cleared communities such as Braighcreich can be reached on foot from the Kintra road.

Eating Out
The Ross of Mull has a small number of excellent restaurants, but places are limited and book quickly. The Keel Row, in Fionnphort, has just reopened and is now owned by the Community. It serves delicious food in a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Shopping is easy
There are many craft producers on Iona and the Ross of Mull. From hand-made jewellery, pottery, paintings, photographs and sculpture, to hand-woven baskets and blankets, the range and quality of our local products is exceptional. South West Mull Makers has a lovely selection of goods and gifts that you can view at the St Columba Centre in Fionnphort, just a few minutes’ walk from Staffa House.
The Mull and Iona Shop is a new online service started in 2020 to allow guests to browse many of the makers who can't be found in our local shops.
And finally, take time to get off the beaten track
At Staffa House we keep a special pack of walks which reflect the nature and history of Iona and the Ross of Mull. These can help you explore some beautiful beaches and old settlements which a car won’t reach. Take one of our packed lunches and enjoy a day away from the bustle of the main areas of Iona and Fionnphort.
We are very happy to help you book or plan your day out including any guided tours or visits that you wish to do. Please just ask and we will do what we can to help you. In the meantime you can start planning your trip here
